A short synopsis of my idea for the Maps and Journeys project.
A 3-4 minute long performance piece of Shakespeare's The Tempest aided with a film based backdrop. The performance will follow the spirit Ariel as he recounts the magic he used to create the tempest at the beginning of act 1, in this monologue he describes how he made the crew of the ship think they were going to die when in fact they were completely safe. Using rear projection, I will direct the actor as if they were in a stage production of the play and choreograph them to work with the moving set behind them. The set will show waves crashing, fire emerging from the ship and segments of Ariels powers scaring the crew members until the last man jumps overboard crying 'Hell is empty, and all the devils are here'.
